Serum periostin levels in participants undergoing major dental surgery

This study aims to determine the levels of periostin over a 12 week period following dental surgery. This is part of a series of studies investigating the potential use of periostin as a biomarker in severe asthmatics. This is a Wellington based study.

To take part in this study you must: |

Be aged 18-75 years old |
|
✔ |
Be having a tooth (or teeth) removed by your dentist |
|
You will not be able to take in the study if: |
|
|
✗ |
You have asthma, bronchitis or COPD |
|
✗ |
You are pregnant or breastfeeding |
|
✗ |
You have had wheezing or used inhalers for your breathing in the last 12 months |
|
✗ |
You have been admitted to hospital in the past 3 months |
|
✗ |
You have had surgery in the past 3 months |
|
✗ |
You have had oral or systemic steroids in the last 3 months |
Study details:
- One 45 minute visit and six further visits over a 12 week period (lasting 5-10mins)
- Seven blood tests
- Travel to Wellington Hospital
- This is an observational study, so we do not alter any of your regular medication or medical treatment.
- There is a $250 reimbursement for your time and travel expenses.
