This study aims to determine the levels of periostin over a 12 week period following dental surgery. This is part of a series of studies investigating the potential use of periostin as a biomarker in severe asthmatics. This is a Wellington based study.

To take part in this study you must:

Be aged 18-75 years old

Be having a tooth (or teeth) removed by your dentist

You will not be able to take in the study if:

You have asthma, bronchitis or COPD

You are pregnant or breastfeeding

You have had wheezing or used inhalers for your breathing in the last 12 months

You have been admitted to hospital in the past 3 months

You have had surgery in the past 3 months

You have had oral or systemic steroids in the last 3 months


Study details: 

- One 45 minute visit and six further visits over a 12 week period (lasting 5-10mins)

- Seven blood tests

- Travel to Wellington Hospital

- This is an observational study, so we do not alter any of your regular medication or medical treatment.

- There is a $250 reimbursement for your time and travel expenses.
